Beddgelert Forest – Snowdonia Summary

Beddgelert Forest is only a small area and as such the routes are short and ideally suited to families. The main car park is situated between the villages of Rhyd Ddu and Beddgelert.

Trail Centre Details

While hardly the epitome of mountain biking, the forest around here do provide a great spot for some easy off road riding. The Lon Las Gwyrfai is perfect for families, and the two way-marked routes of y Bedwen and Derwen are great introductory rides that you can tag on. You could easily combine all three routes in a day’s riding, especially if you’re not looking for anything technical. Those looking for more technical rides should try the routes at Gwydir, Penmachno or the Trail Centre at Coed y Brenin.

The main bases are Beddgelert, Rhyd Ddu or the free Beddgelert Forest Car Park just outside Rhyd Ddu.

The views that are found from the Beddgelert Forest are spectacular, with the Nantlle Ridge towering over the trails at one end and Moel Hebog at the other Snowdon also dominates the view, but doesn’t look as lofty from this angle. Unlike other forestry rides ,you don’t feel closed in and the scenery is a large part of riding here rather than the trails. But what a view!

Facilities:

There’s parking, but that is it! You’ll need to use the Lon Gwyrfai cycletrack to visit facilities in Rhyd Ddu or Beddgelert. There are a number of good pubs in Beddgelert (Tanronnen Inn is our usual stop there) and the Cwellyn Arms in Rhyd Ddu. There’s a small tearoom in Rhyd Ddu, but many more to choose from in Beddgelert. Cycle hire and repairs are available at Beddgelert Bikes at the start of the Lon Las Gwyrfai in Beddgelert. There’s a large pay and display car park here, but also a Welsh Highland Railway station – an ideal way to start your trip!
