Green - EasyCoed Niwbrch – Newborough Forest Summary
Not a centre in the traditonal sense, but this Natural REsource Wales forest features two family oriented cycling trails a well as miles of forestry tracks that are ideal for easy trail riding. There are no trails graded above green, and there should be no technical issues on the wide tracks other than navigating your way in the maze of tracks. You can easily finish a 15km loop without repeats, and adding extra sections is easy enough. Best enjoyed with no plan but a good sense of direction!
Trail Centre Details
The Newborough Forest on Anglesey is an extensive area of coniferous forest to the south-west of the island with easy mountain biking routes. It’s near the village of Newborough and is an area of planted sand dunes and so you’l need to clear the sand from your gears afterwards!
There are two waymarked cycle trails that can be started from the main car park
- The Corsica Trail – Green – a 10km family friendly route that should take a couple of hours
- Bikequest Nature Challenge – Green – a shorter route of 8km that follows some of the Corsica Trail.
There are also plenty of forestry tracks making it ideal for those not looking for anything too technical as well as some short sections of easier surfaced cycle tracks. Be warned though, we’ve found a few of the trails in the forest can become flooded after heavy rain and you’ll need to have a plan b in place which might mean adding a short distance to your day.
You can also walk to Ynys Llanddwyn, which is worth getting off your bike for! The forest is also home to a population of red squrrells, so it’s worth stopping a while to see if you can spot any.
Facilities:
There’s a well stocked catering van on site most of the time. Plenty of parking, but on sunny bank holidays it can fill up with holiday makers and can be busy. We recommend going on a weekday or ouside the School holidays. There’s also a toilet block on site which are open from 9am to 4pm (winter) and from 8am to 6pm (summer).
It costs £5 to enter the forest by car, which is payable as you enter.
Those looking to save some money can park at one of the other car parks suc has Pen Cob near Malltraeth (was free last time we looked) with a map here of all the options. You can easily cycle to the start of the trails, or join them at a different point with ease.
